The baby responds as a newborn with its eyes open while awake and closed while sleeping. S/he is developing immunities to fight mild infection. Those sharp little fingernails are at the ends of the fingertips already, and you might need to clip them during the first few days after birth.

i ordered my birth kit today. for whatever reason, the company the midwives reccomend doesn't have online ordering (what century are they living in?!), so i had to call. i am NOT good with phone calls, especially to people i don't know. i did very well though. the operator was very nice. at the end, she said, "well, you've ordered everything but the sani-briefs! did you need those?" i laughed and told her they were the only thing i actually HAD already (swiped them from the hospital when i had k). it should all arrive late this week, early next week. *squee* i can organize like the ocd freak i am!
i also got a birth ball from ebay this weekend which should arrive in a few days. q has moved down a bit and the pelvic pressure and back pain is getting to me, so i'm looking forward to sitting on my ball. wheee!
i'm going to start lanolizing wool covers this weekend (probably 1 every couple days or so), but i'm not washing the dipes until 36 weeks (thanksgiving), along with the clothes, because i totally feel that's like giving the kid the go-ahead. we'll install the carseat base then, too.
i'm feeling a lot more calm about the approaching birth, since i've got the material aspects all lined up. once i get all that done, i can do some serious nesting and have my baby! :D

At this point, the amniotic fluid is at the highest level in the pregnancy. The amount will remain constant until delivery. Rapid brain growth has increased the baby's head size approximately 3/8 of an inch this week. Fat continues to accumulate which turns the baby's skin color from red to pink.

The baby is up to four pounds now and all five senses are functional. The toenails are completely formed and the hair on the head continues to grow.

Growth begins to slow a teeny bit, and the brain goes through a period of rapid development. The only major organ left to fully develop is the lungs. If your baby is a boy, his testes begin to descend from the body cavity to the scrotum.

Our little one is nearly three pounds already and growing like a weed.
The early lanugo is disappearing, the eyelids open and close, and the toenails are growing. The bone marrow is now responsible for red blood cell production.

The baby's head is in proportion to the rest of the body. Fat continues to accumulate under the skin. The brain can control primitive breathing and body temperature control, and the eyes can move in the sockets. The baby is becoming sensitive to light, sound, taste and smell.

The fetus is growing and developing at an astonishing rate! Eyebrows and eyelashes are now present, and the hair on the head is growing. The eyelids open, and the eyes are completely formed. The body is getting plumper and rounder (weighs about 2 pounds) and is composed of around 2 to 3% body fat. Muscle tone is gradually improving. The lungs are capable of breathing air but if the baby is born now, it would struggle to properly breathe. Be sure to talk to your baby a lot because s/he can recognize your voice now!

due to the newest carl's jr. commercial featuring a guy "shaking" a cow to a very awesome regae/hip hop song, i am forced to purchase said song, "get busy" by sean paul, because q just danced in time to it.
i suppose that's not nearly as bad as what got k dancing in utero: "get this party started" by p!nk.
